He graduated from Friedrich Schiller University of Jena (Germany) and received his Germanist diploma in 1985. In 2000 he defended his doctoral dissertation on “Complex sentence in German colloquial speech” at the Moscow Pedagogical State University. Since 1990 he has taught first at the Pomorsky State University, then since 2002 at the Arkhangelsk State Technical University. After the merger of this two universities he works at the Lomonosov Northern (Arctic) Federal University. Areas of research interests: translation studies, linguistic semiotics, grammar, comparative linguistics. Under the guidance of A.M. Polikarpov, the foundations of integrative translation studies are being developed at SAFU. Author of 250 published scientific works. Member of the Standing Committee on Indigenous Languages of the International Federation of Translators (FIT). Member of the Board of the Russian Translators’ Union. Head of the Arkhangelsk Regional Branch of the Union of Translators of Russia.
