Graduated from Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) of the USSR Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1989 as Candidate of Historical Sciences.

Has been active as a diplomat since 1989.

  • 1989-1995 – Official of the Embassy of the USSR, and (since 1991) the Embassy of Russia, in China
  • 2001-2004 – Head of the First Asian Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  • 2004-2008 – Minister Counselor of the Russian Embassy in Indonesia
  • 2008-2011 – Deputy Director of the Asian and Pacific Cooperation Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs
  • September 14, 2011 to September 17, 2014 – Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Shanghai Cooperation Organization Affairs, National Coordinator SCO Affairs for the Russian Federation, Ambassador-at-large
  • August 25, 2014 to November 2, 2018 – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Thailand and concurrently Permanent Representative of Russia to ESCAP in Bangkok
  • 2018-present – Ambassador-at-large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation
  • 2020-present – Professor of Diplomacy and Professor of Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai and Lao at MGIMO
  • 2023-present – Head of the Department of Diplomacy at MGIMO
